Deep Dark Magic exists mostly out of necessity. I’ve discovered it doesn’t matter how full life gets, if I don’t have control over a creative outlet, then I feel unbalanced. Historically, Deep Dark Magic (…and the other monikers I’ve adopted for my solo outfit) have existed as a platform for me to hone my skills. At this stage, I feel competent enough in my domain and I want to create things: useful things, useless things, and irreverent things. I want a place to put art and a place to say “fuck” if I feel inclined.
There are a few projects brewing (albeit slowly), and maybe only one of them is a proper independent software project – the others are more like art for art’s sake. I don’t know exactly what Deep Dark Magic is this time around, but I’m not ready to pigeonhole it. Maybe it’ll be a half-assed game development studio, maybe it’ll be a record label, or maybe it’ll be more of the same.
In the meantime, it feels good to have an outlet. Hi.
